The first and biggest question is where? We could split the answer in few categories:

  • Mountains
  • Lakes
  • Indoors
  • Old city
  • There’s something special about photos taken in nature. They have a way of capturing the beauty and wonder of the world around us. Whether it’s a photo of a stunning sunset or a close-up of a flower, nature photos have a way of taking our breath away.

Let’s be honest the first picture you have in your mind when talking about Switzerland are its mountains and lakes. So probably that’s the intention of where would majority of us tend to go. Switzerland has so many mountain peaks and side with dramatic views that the choice seems incomprehensible. If you don’t have already a preferred place in mind then checking out the most popular would be the best choice. Be sure to check out some of the must-see sights. Oeschinensee, Zermatt, Interlaken, Thun and Bern are all great places to start. Each one offers something unique and you’re sure to enjoy your time in any of these wonderful locations.

The classic one is the Matterhorn. Few sights are as strongly associated with Switzerland as the iconic silhouette of the Matterhorn. From Zermatt, there are many perspectives to perfectly showcase this natural wonder.

Near Meiringen in the canton of Bern you will find the Reichenbach Falls, which actually consists of seven individual waterfalls. For fans of classic detective novels, the Reichenbach Falls is a household name mainly because the fictional detective Sherlock Holmes faked his death there. A perfect place to follow in the footsteps of the famous detective!

Near Montreux, a moated castle on a rocky island juts out of Lake Geneva. Behind the lake, the Alps rise, making the medieval castle an excellent photo motif.

Here’s what a couple had to say about a recent photoshoot in the mountains from Switzerland
“We had the most incredible photoshoot in the mountains of Switzerland yesterday! The scenery was absolutely breathtaking and the photos came out perfectly. I’m so glad I decided to have my shoot in such an amazing place!”

Ambient light is the the king

Most couple or pre-wedding photographs use ambient light. This means that you use the light available on location without adding flash or strobes. Portraits are most flattering in soft light, which avoids creating hard shadows. Overcast days are ideal, as clouds serve as a giant softbox to diffuse sunlight.

The golden hour is the perfect time of day to make a wedding photoshoot. The light is soft and even, which is very flattering for portraits. Also, the warm tones add to the romantic mood.

The best to schedule the shoot is early in the morning or late in the afternoon. If none of this is possible, you can always look for shades.

    Photoshoot in the city

Sometimes is not necessary to go in the nature for a photoshoot. The cities can tell a different story and change it rapidly in a matter of few meters.

Cityscapes can provide an interesting and unique backdrop for a variety of settings and scenes. They can help create a sense of scale and grandeur, or convey a more intimate and personal feel. Whatever the mood or atmosphere you’re trying to create, a cityscape can be a helpful and versatile tool.

Bern is a great example of scenery changer. It’s a mix of urban, old, relaxed, business, water, concrete and many other moods.

    An important factor: The clothes

Outfits: The model should bring 3 outfits. In the pictures, the model should usually be yourself. Therefore, it is important for this very reason to choose the clothes that the model loves and in which she feels comfortable. However, the model should also think about the outfits that she doesn’t wear that often. Why? Because these outfits are often very impractical for the day or these are worn for a special occasion or just to go out.

Dark and Light: The model should still bring something dark and something light. At least one dark outfit or top should be brought, such as black, charcoal or navy. But also a light outfit, something soft, made of thin fabric and it can even be layered. Always keep in mind that a bright outfit does not always have to be white, for example, nude or light pink also fits.

Shoes: The shoes also play an important role. With high shoes you get, longer legs and they give you a completely different posture. Sufficient shoes should be brought, such as high heels, pumps, sneakers, boots, etc..

Great pictures don’t come from great clothes, but from informality, joy and genuine emotions. Never wear something that pleases others, but not yourself. This will show in the photos and it will probably bother you later when you look at the pictures. It is also allowed to be comfortable outdoors. During an outdoor shoot with kids, sometimes you’ll be lying on the ground, running through wet grass, jumping in the air-your outfits should be suitable for romping and be able to withstand a few stains. You should be able to move freely in it and strike different poses. It doesn’t have to be the old favorite sweater with already patched spots (or maybe it does?). Comfortable, loose-fitting pants or a dress made of stretchy, not too delicate fabric is a good idea.

    Getting crazy

In order to “get a bit crazy,” one might consider talking about topics that are typically outside the comfort zone. The last item in the list is the most important if you want to give your pictures their own and distinctive look. Be spontaneous. Sometimes it doesn’t hurt to deliberately break the rules. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn’t but this helps you set a more relaxed mood, let’s you have fun and more often than not, from here you get the best memorable pictures.
